Summary

Abstract: During and shortly after the Second World War, the demand for lumber
and wood products increased dramatically. This resulted in concern
over lack of knowledge about the extent of the provincial forest
resource, and led to fears that the timber supply could be easily
depleted. The Broad Scale, or Phase 1 Inventory, was initiated in 1949
