Summary
Abstract: Beginning in 1999 selected invertebrates began to be systematically recorded in Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Maritimes Research Vessel Trawl Surveys. This is an OBIS-formatted view of selected invertebrate species from these surveys. Refer to the parent metadata records for more information about the surveys.

Project
Quality Benthic invertebrates were reported inconsistently or not at all from 1970-1998. In 1999 an effort was initiated to regularly capture data on selected invertebrate taxa that are retained in the trawl. These taxa were lobster, several species of crab, scallops, and several groups of echinoderms. These taxa were selected because they occurred regularly in the trawl catch, they could be quantified accurately, and several had existing or potential commercial value.
