Musa Germplasm Information SystemEntry ID: MUSA_MGIS
Abstract: The Musa Germplasm Information System (MGIS) is a database of detailed and standardized information on Musa varieties maintained in the different collections throughout the world. MGIS facilitates access to passport, characterization and evaluation data on Musa varieties for the whole scientific community.
The MGIS relies on an international network of partners wishing to exchange their ... knowledge on genetic resources of the genus Musa and to help the international community benefit from this knowledge. MGIS has been developed in collaboration with CIRAD.
MGIS is distributed on a CD-ROM containing the software and the database. MUSAID.win, the assistance software for the identification of unknown accessions developed by CIRAD is also included. Using the MGIS database, germplasm curators manage their own local database and have a ready access to information recorded by other collections.
The Descriptors for Banana published by INIBAP, IPGRI and CIRAD is the standard reference for the collection of the various types of data.
