Forest Insect and Disease Conditions in the United StatesEntry ID: USDA0008
Abstract: "Forest Insect and Disease Conditions in the United States"
contains data on insect and disease conditions in forest lands
of all ownership in the United States since 1952. Data are
analyzed for type of insect/disease damage (pine beetle, gypsy
moth, spruce budworm, dwarf mistletoe, root disease, etc.). Data
are updated annually.
Collection Organization: USDA Forest Service
Collection ... Methodology: Collected in special aerial and ground
surveys which record short-term changes in pest activity. The
information supplements the mortality information gathered in
periodic forest resource inventories done by the Forest Service.
Data includes reports on forest health, diseases and insects, pest
alerts, and reports on specific outbreaks (white pine bluster,
sudden oak death, western bark beetle, and bark beetle outbreaks).
There is a database on exotic forest pest information
(http://www.spfnic.fs.fed.us/exfor/) and a map on areas
at risk from forest insects and disease
Annual reports on current forest health conditions for the United
States by geographical region is available from here:
