Abstract: The purpose of "Epidemiology and Control of Vegetable Soilborne
Diseases in and Near the Everglades Agricultural Area (Methyl
Bromide Alternatives)" is to study the epidemiology and control
diseases by: evaluating biological, chemical and cultural
management strategies for disease control; determining edaphic
factors that influence survival and growth of the pathogen and
subsequent ... effects on disease development; and evaluating the
effect of the pathogens and the disease they cause on crop
development and yield.

Collection Methodology: Evaluated the effect of mycorrhizae and
other bacterial and fungal biocontrol agents for managing
Fusarium crown and root rot in tomatoes. Several of these
commercial biological agents were successful for suppressing
this disease. This demonstrates the potential to establish the
biological agents on the roots of tomato transplants prior to
exposure to the pathogen in the field. In addition, this will
provide a thorough knowledge base for the performance of these
biologicals under rigorous field conditions, and determine if
they have the potential to be a replacement for the upcoming
loss of methyl bromide.
