The Effect of Cattle on Habitat Selection by Bighorn Sheep
Entry ID:
brdfresc0005
Summary
Abstract:
The degree of competition between cattle and
bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) is unknown. It is important that land managers understand interactions between the two species so that management decisions can reflect the requirements of both. Studies done at other locations have had conflicting results. Competition with cattle has reported to range from severe with die-offs to little conflict. This ... ![]() Purpose: Study results will be used to develop cattle management plans in bighorn sheep habitat. These general plans are expected to be expanded into detailed habitat management plans and long-term bighorn sheep population monitoring schemes to test results of recommended management practices.
