Summary
Abstract: Endolymph (inner ear fluid) from the semicircular canals was collected from Pagothenia borchgrevinki and Dissostichus mawsoni by dissecting the mid brain to expose the intact vestibular apparatus. Samples from ~30 fish was pooled to determine viscosity. The viscosity values were used in a mathematical model of the vestibulo-ocular reflex to assess the relative degrees of cold compensation at different stages in the reflex arc.
