Abstract: This dataset contains chicken and egg final estimates for
1988-1993. At the national level, revisions to estimates of all
chickens, and hens and pullets of laying age were less than 1.5
percent. Revisions to the annual average number of layers and
annual egg production were less than one percent. Estimates
contained in this publication provide a historic record ... and a
benchmark for current estimates.

Collection Methodology: Surveys of the farm universe are made
several times each year and estimates are adopted based on
survey data and any other available administrative data that
would support estimate levels.

Quality Each state provides estimates, and estimates are closely
reviewed at the national level. U.S. totals evaluated using a
balanced sheet approach. All surveys computer and manually
edited for error.
