Abstract: The NOAA KLM User's Guide CD-ROM Version 1.0 is a product available from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). This CD-ROM is intended for users of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Polar Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) data and products. NCDC produced this CD-ROM specifically for users of the NOAA-K, -L, and -M (herein known as NOAA KLM) series satellite data ... and products. On this CD-ROM, you will find the NOAA KLM User's Guide as well as actual images and digital data samples obtained from NOAA-K (also known as NOAA-15). The samples will help you understand the new data formats and develop data processing software. To eliminate redundancy, the NOAA KLM User's Guide combines and replaces the function of several older documents including the NOAA Polar Orbiter Data User's Guide, Data Extraction and Calibration of TIROS-N/NOAA Radiometers (NESS 107), the TIROS-N, NOAA A-G Satellite Series (NESS 95), and the TIROS-N Series Direct Readout Services Users Guide. It contains descriptions of the spacecraft characteristics, orbital considerations, sensor packages, real-time data systems for local users, tracking procedures to acquire data from real-time transmission systems sensors, ingest and preprocessing, calibration, formats for Level 1b data (format that NOAA uses to distribute raw data to users) and Operational products including Sounding Products, Sea Surface Temperature (SST), Mapped GAC, Coastwatch Products, Ozone (SBUV/2) Products, Snow and Ice Products, Aerosol/Optical Thickness Products and Radiation Budget.
Purpose: To make a wide range of climatic data available to researchers and the public.

Use Constraints The images processed in this way preserve all the original details
leaving to the user the evaluation of hot features. The detected fires
can be considered as highly likely, however some fires can be missed.
The user of the fire product needs to take into account the algorithm
limitations due to cloud presence, atmospheric effects,
bidirectionality of emissivity, fire temperature and extension, all
features not taken into account in the processing.
