Hourly Observations and Climate Data for the Ukraine (1887-1937)

Summary

Abstract: The observational and climate data resides in 7 books, 'Meteorolgische
Beobachtungen Angestellt an dem Observatorium Der K.K. Technischen
Hochshulz in Lemberg' (C/db AO L), and 'Resultate Der Im an dem
Oservatorium Der Technischen Hochschule in Lemberg Angestellten
Meteorologischen Beobachtungen' (C/db AO Lr), both written in
German. The data contained in these books are daily surface
observations and daily and monthly weather totals for each month from
1911 to 1937. These data are for Lemberg in the Ukraine. Parameters
included in the hourly observations are pressure, air temperature,
humidity, cloudiness, precipitation, winds, vapor pressure, and
sunshine duration.

Daily parameters incorporated in these data are mean pressure,
temperature, vapor pressure, humidity, and cloudiness; five-day mean
pressure, temperature, vapor pressure, and humidity. Monthly
parameters contained in these data are: mean pressure, temperature,
vapor pressure, humidity, cloudiness, and winds; maximum and minimum
pressure, temperature, vapor pressure, humidity, and wind speed; total
rainfall, 24 hour maximum rainfall, and sunshine hours; and number of
days of rain and thunderstorms.

Additional data resides in 2 books, 'Tables of Meteorological
Observatorium' (C/db E43) written in German and Russian. The data
contained in these books are hourly surface observations and daily and
monthly surface climatic data for each month of the period 1887 to
1892. These data are for the Ukraine. Parameters included in the
hourly observations are pressure, air and soil temperature, humidity,
cloudiness, and winds. Daily variables incorporated in these data are
the following: mean pressure, air and soil temperature, and humidity;
absolute maximum and minimum air and soil temperature; and
precipitation, sunshine, and evaporation amounts. Monthly parameters
contained in these data are: absolute maximum and minimum pressure,
temperature, humidity, and 24 hour evaporation; number of days of
cloudy skies, clear skies, maximum < 0, min <0, precipitation, snow,
hail, sleet, fog, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
