Daily/Monthly Weather Data, Temperature and Ice Conditions for Scandinavia, USSR, Germany, Netherlands, North Sea, and Baltic Sea (1901-1977)
Entry ID: NCL00167_224

Summary
Abstract: The surface temperature and sea ice data resides in 26 books,
'Eisbericht Amtsblatt Des Deutschen Hydrographischen Instituts' (C/dc
100 Ae) written in German. The data contained in these books are daily
observations of surface temperature and ice and navigation conditions
for coastal stations in Scandinavia, USSR, Germany, Netherlands, North
Sea, and Baltic Sea. These data are for each day of the period 1901
to 1977. Some data are missing from 1970 to 1972. The temperature
parameters included in these observations are the following: sea
surface temperature (including deviation from the mean), and the air
temperature.

The surface weather data resides in 21 books, 'Maanedsoversight Over
Vejrforholdene (c/daa AO-ma) written in Dutch. In these summaries,
definitions are:

1. Daily/monthly/seasonal/annual data - values determined for each
consecutive period, e.g., monthly temperature data: Jan 1900, Feb
1900, Mar 1900, etc.

2. Long-term data - values determined over a period of years, e.g.,
long-term monthly temperature data using Jan 1901, Jan 1902, Jan 1903,
etc.

The data contained in these books are tables of hourly, daily, and
monthly surface temperature, humidity, wind, pressure and
precipitation as well as maps of monthly temperature and precipitation
for Denmark and Sweden. These data are for each month of the period
1914 to 1956. The tables contain the following data: hourly
temperature and humidity; daily maximum and minimum air temperature;
daily rainfall totals; monthly mean pressure, temperature, and
humidity; absolute monthly maximum and minimum temperature; monthly
rainfall totals; monthly 24 hour maximum rainfall; and monthly number
of days of rain, snow, hail, thunderstorms, calm winds, and
frost. Monthly normals for each of the parameters are also given. The
maps contain monthly mean temperature, monthly rainfall totals,
monthly maximum and minimum air temperature.

These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
