Summary
Abstract: The long-term data resides in 1 book, 'Die Beobachtungsergebniffe der
Meteorolgischen Stationen nieder Ordnung in Herzogtum Braunschweig Wahrend des
Zeitraumes 1878-1905' (C/dc 181 d) written in German. The data contained in
this book are tables of monthly precipitation and long-term means of
cloudiness, surface winds, and temperature data for Germany from 1878 to 1907.
Precipitation parameters for each month of the period included in these data
are monthly and greatest 24 hour amount.

The rest of the parameters in these data are averaged over the entire
period. The only daily variable is mean temperature. The monthly
parameters are the following: mean precipitation amount; mean maximum
and minimum temperature; absolute maximum and minimum temperature;
mean variation of temperature; wind direction frequency; number of
days of precipitation of different intensities, snow, hail, sleet,
haze, fog, thunderstorms, dew, hoar frost, snow cover, cloudy skies,
sunny skies, ice, and frost. Annual parameters incorporated in these
data are mean, maximum, and minimum number of days in the frost-free
season (including years). In addition, there are tables of heavy
rainfalls in 1905.

Additional long-term data resides in 1 book, 'Das Klima Von
OberBayern' (C/dc 161 B574) written in German. The data contained in
these books are tables of long-term surface temperature and
precipitation for Germany from 1835 to 1884. The parameters included
in these data averaged over the period are the following: monthly mean
temperature; absolute maximum and minimum temperature; greatest daily
fluctuation of temperature; mean fluctuation of temperature; wind
direction frequency; and absolute highest and lowest monthly
precipitation amount for the period. The total amount of precipitation
for the entire period is also tabulated.

These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
