Summary
Abstract:
The Crimea data reside in 1 book, 'Climate and Zoology of the Crimea' (C/db C322), and is written in English. The data contained in this book are tables of mean, maximum, and minimum surface temperature and mean surface winds recorded at the Balaklava Castle Hospital in the Crimea. The temperature data are for weekly periods from April 1855 to June 1856, and the wind data are the mean for each ... day of the period. The Ukraine agricultural data reside in 1 book, 'Resultai Meteorologique Nabliuden. - Poltava Gouvernment' (C/db P779), and is written in Russian and French). The data contained in this book are tables of daily observations for various stations in the Ukrainian agricultural regions. The surface parameters included in these tables are: hourly observations of air and soil temperature, pressure, cloudiness, vapor pressure, evaporation, relative humidity, wind direction and speed, and precipitation; monthly frequency of wind direction, specified amounts of precipitation, and cloud cover; monthly number of days of snow, sleet, hail, fog, haze, thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, cloudy and overcast skies; maximum and minimum temperature below zero; temperatures at specified ranges; monthly twenty-four hour maximum and total precipitation; monthly mean, maximum, and minimum for all the hourly observation parameters; daily hours of sunshine and amount of sunshine for selected hours; daily snow totals and cover; and freezing and thawing of the rivers. The Kharkov data resides in 2 books: 1) 'Precipitations en governement de Kharkiv' (C/db AO-8p), written in Russian, French, and English; and 2) 'The Temperature of the Air' (C/db AO-8t), written in Russian and English. The data contained in these books are tables of daily, monthly, and annual precipitation and temperatures from the Kharkiv Meteorological Observatory in the Ukraine for each year and averaged over the period 1877 to 1926. The surface temperature parameters included in these data are the following: monthly mean; daily mean, mean maximum, mean minimum, range, variation, and absolute maximum and minimum; monthly number of days with daily mean, minimum, maximum temperature between certain values; frequency of monthly mean temperature between certain values; monthly variation between successive months; and first and last day of frost. The precipitation parameters included in these data are: daily, monthly, and annual totals; monthly 24 hour maximum; and monthly number of days with precipitation of a least a specified amount. The hourly observation data resides in 2 books, 'Ukraine Service Meteorologique Observations Meteorologiques' (C/db AO-U), and is written in Ukranian and French. This book contains hourly observations and daily weather data for each year from 1924 to 1925. The surface parameters included in these tables are the following: hourly observations of pressure, air and soil temperature, humidity, sunshine, cloudiness, and wind; daily precipitation totals; and daily snow depth. The daily mean, absolute maximum and minimum are also tabulated for the above variables. In addition, the wind speed and direction at different levels of the atmosphere and the level of the lakes and rivers are tabulated. The daily precipitation data reside in 1 book, 'Karten der taglichen Summen der Niederschlage in der Ukraine' (C/db AO-Un) and is written in German and Russian. The data contained in these books are maps of daily precipitation for the period June to August 1925. The Raievka data resides in 2 books, 'Observations Meteorologiques faites a Sinelnikowo' (C/db E36), and is written in Russian and French. The data contained in these two volumes are tables of daily observations and daily and monthly weather data for Raievka in the Ukraine. These tables are for the year 1915. Daily surface weather observations of air and soil temperature, humidity, cloudiness, winds, and vapor pressure are included in these tables. Other surface parameters recorded in these tables are the following: Monthly and daily mean, mean maximum, mean minimum, and absolute maximum and minimum for pressure, air and soil temperature, humidity, cloudiness, precipitation, winds, evaporation, and vapor pressure; monthly number of days with freezing temperatures, snow, hail, sleet, overcast skies, sunny skies, strong winds, haze, fog, thunderstorms, and lightning; daily snow cover depth; monthly wind direction frequency; monthly and daily precipitation amount and duration and evaporation totals; and daily total and duration of insolation. These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
