Summary
Abstract: The Pilot 2006 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) centers on two broad environmental protection objectives: (1) reducing environmental stresses on human health, and (2) promoting ecosystem vitality and sound natural resource management. Derived from a careful review of the environmental literature, these twin goals mirror the priorities expressed by policymakers. Environmental health and ... View entire text

Purpose: To provide quantitative metrics for evaluating a country's environmental performance in different policy categories relative to clearly defined targets.

Use Constraints The locations of stream measurement points were digitized from 1:126,720-scale
county road maps. The corresponding stream reaches were derived from a
1:250,000 hydrography coverage (Soenksen and others, 1999). If measurement
sites are used separately from reaches, the maximum scale of 1:100,000 should
not be exceeded. When used in conjunction with the reach segments, the maximum
scale should not exceed 1:250,000.
