Texas Cooperative Wildlife Collection Marine InvertebratesEntry ID: TCWC_Cnidaria
Abstract: The Collection of Marine Invertebrates at the Texas Cooperative Wildlife Collection consists of over 47,000 dry and fluid-preserved marine invertebrates primarily from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. The majority of the specimens were collected by Research Vessels Alaminos and Gyre during the 1960's and 1970's. The collection remains the most comprehensive collection of deep-sea ... invertebrates from the Gulf of Mexico. It is continually used by systematists, undergraduates, and graduates as a resource for their studies.
Data was published in April 2011 on the OBIS-USA web site and is available at http://www.usgs.gov/obis-usa.

Users must recognize that the analysis and interpretation of data requires background knowledge and expertise about marine biodiversity (including ecosystems and taxonomy). Users should be aware of possible errors in the use of species names, geo-referencing, data handing and mapping. They should crosscheck their results for possible errors, and qualify their interpretation of any results accordingly. Appropriate caution is thus necessary in the interpretation of results derived from OBIS-USA.
