Abstract: Data in "Genotypic Variation in Carbon Isotope Discrimination in
Mature Ponderosa Pine Trees" consists of measurements of xylem
water potential, soil moisture, gas exchange and carbon isotope
discrimination of mature ponderosa pines at three locations in
Nebraska. The objective of this
research is to determine the usefulness of carbon isotope
discrimination as a selection criteria to improve ... water-use
efficiency in forest and conservation trees.

Collection Methodology: This study examines genotypic and
environmental variation in carbon isotope discrimination in
mature ponderosa pine trees from diverse geographic sources
planted in three provenance tests in Nebraska. Physiological
investigation conducted on trees from diverse
physiographic sources at the three sites. Gas exchange and
water relations measured on 25-year-old trees from twelve
sources. The sources selected to represent a range of
physiographic conditions while minimizing latitudinal and
photoperiod effects. Net photosynthetic and stomatal response
to water stress compared for each source and location. Water-use
efficiency compared from seasonal gas exchanges and carbon
isotope discrimination of needles and cellulose from wood cores.
