Summary

Abstract:
Since 1936, the Canadian Forest Service has been collecting data on insects, diseases and abiotic conditions (e.g. storm damage) that are a potential threat to the health of Canada's forests. Some of the data are collected as part of ongoing surveys, while the rest are collected at random. This data set has considerable continuity of information through both time and space. In addition to the data, a large collection of insects and diseases and a mycological herberium have been established at all CFS establishments across Canada. Within the collections and herberia there is a wealth of information that is available for extraction. The data detailing the insects, diseases and abiotic conditions collected are used to support a number of decision-making functions that ultimately may impact forest policy. These data are also used in research and to help increase scientific knowledge of forests, ecosystems, biology, etc. Spatial Data Organization Information - Indirect Spatial Reference: Direct Spatial Reference: Raster Object Type: Row Count: Column Count: Vertical Count: Spatial Reference Information - Horizontal Coordinate System Definition - Planar - Planar Coordinate Encoding Method: Coordinate Representation: Abscissa Resolution: Ordinate Resolution: Distance and Bearing Representation: Distance Resolution: Bearing Resolution: Bearing Units: Bearing Reference Direction: Bearing Reference Meridian: Planar Distance Units: Geodetic Model: Horizontal Datum Name: Ellipsoid Name: Semi-major Axis: Denominator of Flattening Ratio: |
