Determining the prevalence of IPNV in brook trout during embryonic development
Entry ID:
LSC_IPNV
Summary
Abstract:
The earliest research involving infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV)
showed that the virus was carried by adult fish and transmitted with sex products, i.e. eggs and milt. Epizootics of IPN have occurred in iodophor treated eggs indicating that the virus is associated with eggs and may not be readily inactivated by routine egg disinfection.including one of our own, have indicated that infectious IPNV can be detected in the egg shells. There is some experimental evidence suggesting that IPNV contaminated egg shells may serve as a reservoir for horizontal transmission of virus. The fate of egg-associated virus and its affect on the developing embryo are unknown as are the interrelationships between parental virus titer and egg viability.
