Quality

The vegetation mapping project (HI_VEG_ORTHO_VEGMAP) used a set of orthophotos and orthophoto mosaics selected from runs taken in 1980 (casc series, Hasselblad) and 1987 (antc series, Linhof). The 1987 aerial photos were used wherever possible, as resolution was higher. Where there was no 1987 coverage, 1980 aerial photos were rectified and used. Areas where 1980 orthophotos were used were as follows: part of the Spit (central section of Dovers Moraine), the northern part of Paddick Valley, Cape Gazert, Laurens Peninsula and Atlas Cove area. The 1987 and 1980 aerial photos for the areas between Gilchrist Beach in the northeast, to Spit Bay in the east, to Long Beach in the south, to Cape Gazert in the west, were orthorectified using ground control points collected with a hand-held GPS unit in 2000 (ASAC_1181). The Laurens Peninsula 1980 mosaic was orthorectified using ground control points collected with a hand-held GPS unit in 2003-04 (ASAC_1181). A shapefile of orthophoto extents shows polygons for the areas where each orthophoto was used for mapping. This is an essential guide for use when matching the vegetation polygons to the correct orthophotos.
