Abstract:
Meteorological, hydrological, and oceanic data for the entire Russian continent resides in many hardcopy books and atlases. The following is a list of such references. 'Annales De L'Observatoire Physique Central Nicolas' (C/db AO) is written in French. The data contained in these books are tables of hourly observations, and daily, monthly, and annual weather data for the USSR for the period 1818 to 1905. Hourly surface observations and daily means of surface pressure, winds, air and ground temperature, vapor pressure, relative humidity, cloudiness, rainfall, solar radiation, evaporation, and magnetic declination, horizontal intensity, and vertical component are included in the tables. Monthly surface parameters incorporated in the tables are; absolute maximum and minimum temperature and precipitation; number of days of precipitation, rain, snow, thunderstorms, wind direction, and maximum and minimum temperature less than zero. These monthly parameters are for each month of the period. The mean diurnal march of surface temperature averaged over the period is also included in the tables. 'Die Bewolkung Des Russischen Reiches' (C/db S546) is written in German. The data contained in this book are daily and monthly cloudiness and humidity tables for the USSR from 1870 to 1891. Daily data include mean absolute humidity and cloudiness. Monthly parameters in this dataset are mean, maximum, and minimum cloudiness, averaged over the period, and the number of sunny and cloudy days for each month from 1870 to 1891. ' Der Jarliche Gang Und De Vertheilung Der Feuchtigkeit Der Luft in Russland' (C/db AO-3) is written in German and Russian. The data contained in this book are monthly and seasonal temperature, relative and absolute humidity tables for Russia. These tables are for each year of the period 1883 to 1890 and averaged from 1871 to 1890. For temperature, only the mean is tabulated, but for absolute and relative humidity, the tables contain absolute maximum and minimum, absolute variance, and deviation from the long-term mean values. 'Die Temperatur-Verhaltnisse Des Russian Reiches' (C/db W668t) and 'Die Regen-Verhaltnisse Des Russischen Reiches' (C/db W668R) are written in German and Russian. The data contained in these atlases are monthly and annual temperature and precipitation means for the USSR averaged over the period 1850 to 1881. Temperature and precipitation anomaly maps and graphs of the annual and daily means for a given hour averaged over the period for the above variables, in addition to the standard mean, are included. 'Wahre Tagesmittel Und Tagliche Variation Der Temperature an 18 Stationen Des Russischen Reiches' (C/db W137) and 'Wahre Tagesmittel Der Temperatur Des Russichen Reiches' (C/db AO-3) are written in German. The data contained in these books are tables of daily, monthly, and annual temperature data for the USSR from 1743 to 1882. These tables contain, for each individual year, the following: monthly and daily mean temperature; mean monthly anomaly of the temperature; and absolute monthly extremes. Tabular information averaged over the period includes: frequency of days of certain temperature; daily frequency of largest temperature variation; monthly and annual mean of the mean anomalous temperature variation; probability of the temperature being greater then a certain value and of a temperature change of more than a certain amount; absolute monthly temperature extreme; and five and ten day mean, mean of temperature anomaly, and variation of temperature. 'Radical differences in the Climate of Russia' and ' Le Climat De L'Empire Russe et la Meteorologie en Russie et en Siberie' (C/db V872), and 'Climate of Russia' and 'Les Rivieres et les Lacs de la Russie' (C/db V872c) are written French. These books contain monthly, seasonal, and annual weather data tables for the USSR. These data are for the period 1700 to 1891. These tables contain the following surface data averaged over the period: mean monthly and seasonal average, maximum, and minimum temperature, pressure, cloudiness, precipitation, and wind direction frequencies; and mean annual temperature, rainfall, frost-free days, and days for formation and breakup of the ice on the rivers. In addition, there are tables containing data for mean harvest time and annual days of growth for rye, wheat, and oats. The data for individual years are seasonal and annual flow rates and levels of rivers and lakes. 'Resultaty nablyudenii nad siloi vietra v Rossii i sutochnyi period etogo iavleniya' (C/db V872) is written in Russian. The data contained in this book are monthly means of the surface wind speed for Russia averaged over the period 1870 to 1900. 'Atlas Climatologique De L'Empire De Russie' (C/db AO-5a) is written in French and Russian. The data contained in this atlas are monthly, seasonal, and annual weather means and extremes for the USSR averaged over the period 1849 to 1899. The surface parameters included in these maps are the following: mean monthly and annual pressure, temperature, resultant wind, relative humidity, vapor pressure, and cloudiness; mean seasonal precipitation; season of maximum number of days for precipitation and cloudiness; and mean annual absolute maximum and minimum temperature, clear, cloudy, snow cover, and thunderstorm days, and dates of freezing and thawing of the rivers. There is a chart of cyclone tracks for the period 1872 to 1887 and graphs for the monthly and hourly mean of pressure, temperature, humidity, vapor pressure, and precipitation. 'Maps of Mean Annual Runoff of Rivers of the USSR' (Misc. Unclassified Atlases) is written in Russian. The data contained in this atlas are maps of the mean annual runoff for USSR rivers. This book contains daily surface vapor pressure and wind observation tables, and daily isobaric maps for Western USSR. These tables and maps are for May through July of each individual year from 1891 to 1911. These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983. |
