Atlantic Submarine Cable and Pipeline DatabaseEntry ID: Canada_CHS_AtlSubmaCablPipelDB
Abstract: This database has been compiled by the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) and
International Telecom Incorporated - it is being used to store latitude and
longitude positions for offshore subsea cables, as well as pipelines. These
positions have been compiled from CHS archival records, as well as from
information supplied by cable companies. The positions are of varying levels
of accuracy, as ... earlier surveys did not approach the precision of modern
methods.Current primary use is for reference and publication on CHS products.
These data are also part of an effort to effectively track cable positions and
make them available to stakeholders for purposes of marine safety, hazard
assessment and project planning.

Quality To enable verification, cable/pipeline positions have been plotted on a variety
of digital and hard-copy CHS products. All available cable sources are mapped,
so as to form the basis of a repository for historical and current subsea cable
and pipeline data. Some data are historically unreliable, but the best
available sources were used.
Access Constraints None
Use Constraints Other government agencies and private sector companies may define and describe
cable and pipeline positions differently than the content of this inventory.
There is no attempt to establish these positions as legally authoritative.
Individuals, agencies and organizations intending to engage in activities
adjacent to cable areas, should consult the appropriate agencies and companies.
