Abstract: The purpose of "Biochemical and Biophysical Response Mechanisms
to Radiation Stress" is to determine the effect of UV-B
radiation alone and in combination with other stress factors.

Collection Methodology: Selected plant genotypes subjected to
elevated UV-B radiation, CO2 and/or O3 singly and in combination
with one another under ... growth chamber, greenhouse, and/or field
conditions to establish dose-response relationships and possible
stress interactions. Both UV exclusion and enhancement
approaches utilized, employing specially designed
instrumentation and irradiation devices and specially designed
instrumentation and irradiation devices and special exposure
chambers to control CO2 and O3. Plants characterized as to
differences in photosynthesis, stomatal behavior, carbon
allocation, pathogenicity, membrane structure and function, PS
II activity, plant pigments, polyamines, polyamine conjugates,
lipid peroxidation, free radical scavengers. Analyses made on
both intact plants and on subcellular fractions, using HPLC, GC,
IC, EPR, NMR, gel electrophoresis, chlorophyll fluorescence,
IRGA, and spectrophotometric techniques.
