GIS data created for the Broknes Peninsula and Larsemann Hills Environmental Management maps published 2005Entry ID: larsemann_envmanagement_maps
Abstract: The Australian Antarctic Data Centre, in liaison with the Environment Protection and Policy section of the Australian Antarctic Division published two environmental management maps of the Larsemann Hills in April 2005 (see the links below). The maps used topographic data described by the metadata records 'Larsemann Hills - Mapping from aerial photography captured February 1998' and 'Larsemann ... Hills - Mapping from Landsat 7 imagery captured January 2000'. These records have links to the data. Other GIS data generated for the maps included:
(i) the boundaries of a proposed Antarctic Specially Managed Area and proposed management areas;
(ii) the locations of anchorages, beaches, a grave, monuments, aircraft landing areas, Physics equipment.
These data were generated using locations and information given in the Draft Antarctic Specially Managed Area (ASMA) Management Plan for the Larsemann Hills, East Antarctica' and, in the case of the ASMA and management areas, advice from Bruce Hull (Environment Protection and Policy section, AAD). The Magnetic
Quiet Zones are centred on the locations of the Physics equipment and have a radius of 80 metres. The data has been formatted according to the SCAR Feature
Catalogue. Use the Q_info number of a feature to search for data quality information about that feature (see link below).
