Driftless Areas in Illinois
Entry ID:
IGDNR_DRIFTLESS
Summary
Abstract:
This is an Arc/Info polygon data set containing driftless areas in Illinois.
These areas are analogous to areas of the state where the bedrock surface is not buried. Data are originally from the Buried Bedrock Surface map (1:500,000) by Herzog et al. (1994) and the related ISGS Arc*path_name_suppressed*/bedtopo. There are no tabular data associated with the spatial data in this data set. The nominal scale is 1:500,000. Purpose: Appropriate applications are regional or statewide studies, preferably at a scale of 1:500,000. These data can be used in conjunction with buried bedrock surface, loess, glacial boundary, and drift thickness information to demonstrate various aspects of the unglaciated portions of Illinois. Supplemental_Information: Most recent updates to the data: Edition 1.0 of these data were reviewed for internal logical consistency in June, 1998. As a result, tics were replaced, and COVER-ID values were recalculated to be unique. See logical consistency report and process steps for May, 1998 for more details. The updated data set (this one) is edition 1.1.
