Woodslee Tile Runoff Rotation Experiment

Summary
Abstract: This experiment began in 1959 at cool temperate site in Canada. The
measurments made (data available), methodology, and frequency are as
follows:

a) Vegetation measurements made and frequency

Yield: Annual
Nitrogen content of offtake: Annual 1971-80
Annual 1971-80: P, K. See Bolton et al (1982)

b) Soil sampling

Details of soil sampling method: For 1991 samples were obtained
with a hand corer at 0-10,10-26 (both within the plough layer) and
26-45 cm approx (below plough layer). Two replicate core samples were
taken in each of the two field replicates. Bulk density measurements
also made annually 1971-80. 1993 samples taken at 0-10, 10-20, 20-40,
40-60 cm with a hyddraulic coring truck. Two replicate samples were
taken in each of the two field replicates. See Stone (1991) who used
and compared different sampling techniques.Some data available from
adjacent forest: soil samples from 0-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm. Soil is
separated into layers.

cm. 1993: 0-10,10-20,20-40,40-60 cm. (see above).

Method of measuring soil bulk density or weight: Core
Other nutrients: Total P and P fractions were measured in 1993. N,
P, K, Ca, Mg measured in tile drains 1961-67 - annual losses
calculated. See Bolton et al 1970.

d) Details of the meteorological station

Nearest meteorological station to the site: Woodslee which is 0 km
from the site at coordinates 82deg44min W, 42deg13min N

Relative humidity: Daily (now hourly) measured/calculated by use of
equation by Priestly & Taylor (1972) in Monthly Weather Rev. 100:
81-97.
