Summary
Abstract: Soil biological samples were collected from a range of salty hollows to determine if some life forms had adapted to this environment because biological adaptation in Antarctica is such that virtually all niches are occupied. If this is not the case, then the conditions limiting biological life (i.e. salinity) may be defined by traverse sampling across these salty hollows. Several sites were sampled in Alatna Valley, Towle Valley and in the glacial tills between the Howchin and Walcott Glaciers in Walcott Bay.

Description: The Ross Sea Region Soils database, run by Landcare Rsearch, New Zealand, stores information on soil site and soil pit horizon data from 35 years of soil studies by the investigators and their associates. There are >900 sites in the database but they are currently not sorted
