Summary

Abstract:
The Scanning Hydrographic Operational Airborne Lidar Survey (SHOALS) system is the world leader in airborne lidar bathymetric mapping. SHOALS employs a technique known as Airborne Lidar Bathymetry (ALB) or Airborne Lidar Hydrography (ALH) which uses state-of-the-art LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology to rapidly and accurately measure seabed depths and topographic elevations. SHOALS can survey over large areas, far exceeding the capabilities and efficiency of traditional survey methods. The attraction of ALB lies in it's ability to overcome many of the disadvantages of conventional acoustic survey techniques. Since becoming operational in 1994 has completed a diverse selection of nearly 300 projects. SHOALS represents a unique partnership between US government agencies and industry to provide a total solution to all aspects of airborne lidar projects. |
