Summary
Abstract:
These data were automated to provide a suitable geographic
information system (GIS) data layer depicting the historical shoreline for Maine. These data are derived from shoreline maps that were produced by the NOAA National Ocean Service including its predecessor agencies. Purpose: Shoreline spatial data are considered a crucial element in land use planning, determination of boundary extents, performing change analysis for erosion and accretion studies, and other types of decision making. ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY REPORT: The attribute accuracy was tested by creating
checkplots of the coded linework. The different codes depict shoreline, piers, dikes, jetties, breakwaters, and groins. A light table review of the checkplots would reveal any inaccurate coding. Mistakes would be identified and corrected until accurate ... ![]()
