Summary
Abstract: Japanese Ship Observations is historical data set DSI-1118, archived at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). The Ocean areas covered were wherever Japanese ships operated, except observations made at Ocean Weather Stations (OSVs) X and T, and Japanese Antarctic Whaling Ships. The Japanese ship Soya was not included. The hours 06, 12, 18 and 24 are local mean times (LMT) (24 ismidnight of day ending). Japanese Standard Time is 135E MeridianTime and is +9 hours from GCT. The atmospheric and oceanic surface parameters included in this dataset are hourly observations of air temperature, air pressure, winds, cloud types, skycover, visibility, precipitation, ocean wave height and direction, sea ice, ocean pressure, swell, sea water, suspended solids, currents, sea surface temperature, sea surface height, and tides.

Purpose: To make a wide range of climatic data available to researchers and the public.
