Gulf Stream Paths
Entry ID:
URI_Gulf_Stream
Summary
Abstract:
All AVHRR-derived SST fields (from the 5-channel AVHRR) were
composited into two day images. The northern edge of the Gulf Stream defined by the large cold-to-warm SST gradient (moving offshore) was then manually digitized from these images. The resulting data set is a set of longitude, latitude pairs for all cloud free locations in each composited image. The period of coverage is April 1982 through December 1989. The area of coverage is from the point at which the Gulf Stream leaves the continental margin off the east coast of the United States (approximately 35N) to the extent of coverage from the Wallops Island Receiving Station (approximately 45W).
