Summary
Abstract:
The Community Climate System Model (CCSM) is a fully-coupled, global climate model that provides state-of-the-art computer simulations of the Earth's past, present, and future climate states. CCSM3.0 consists of model output from the Community Atmosphere Model (CAM), the Community Sea Ice Model (CSIM), and the Community Land Model (CLM). ... CCSM3.0, various multi-century control runs were carried out. All output data from these control runs is available to the public. Another series of CCSM3 experiments is underway which will provide data for an upcoming IPCC Assessment Report. Data from these experiments will be made available after CCSM3 results are submitted to the IPCC. CCSM3.0 experiments include the following scenarios at T85_gx1x3, T42_gx1x3, and T31_gx3x5 resolution: - 1990 Control - 1% increasing CO2 - 2 x CO2 - 4 x CO2 - 1870 control CCSM3.0 output data files consist of: - CAM: monthly-mean time series of all 2D fields and monthly-mean, zonally averaged time series of all 3D fields - LSM: 100 years of original history files - CSIM: monthly-mean time series of select fields - POP: monthly-mean time series of all 2D fields and annual-mean time series of all 3D fields For all control runs, monthly average data were saved and many post-processed time-series were created. All output data from these runs is available to the public. A large (2TB) subset of this data is available via the ESG, which is the primary method for distributing CCSM3 output data. The full set of original output data is archived on NCAR's Mass Storage System (NCAR account/login required). A sub-set (1TB) of post-processed output data is also available "inside the firewall" at NCAR on the nfs-mounted data partition /ccsm/data (NCAR account/login required). CCSM is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Administration of the CCSM is maintained by the Climate and Global Dynamics Division (CGD) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).

Quality
Data obtained from WGMS prior to 1999 were subjected to plausibility checks at WGMS while they were being loaded into the database in Zurich. Errors uncovered during the plausibility check were printed out and sent to the data collectors for review. The final accuracy of the data is the responsibility of the data collectors in the individual countries (Hoelzle and Trindler, 1998).
