Abstract:
Nasa Goddard Space Flight Center's SeaWiFS Project (Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor) is utilized to measure bio-optical properties of our global oceans. Located on Orbiting Sciences Corporation.s (OSC) SeaStar spacecraft, the SeaWiFS instrument collects ocean color data. The satellite has a sun synchronous orbit at 705 km above the earth.s surface and collects data in eight wavelength bands and two telemetry streams. The Global Area Coverage (GAC) sensor gathers data in a 1502 km-wide swath with a resolution of 4.5 km, whereas the Local Area Coverage (LAC) encompasses a 2801 km-wide swath with 1.1 km coverage. LAC data is used on this site. If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Potter.
