Summary
Abstract: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established by the
World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environmental Program
to assess scientific information on climate change. The IPCC publishes reports
that summarize the state of the science. At the request of the JSC / CLIVAR
Working Group on Coupled Modeling (WGCM), the PCMDI is archiving coupled
ocean-atmosphere general circulation model output to support the Working Group
1 component of the IPCC's 4th Assessment Report. The data archived by the PCMDI
from each participating coupled ocean-atmosphere model is a subset of that
model's output. Working Group 1 of the IPCC focuses on the physical climate
system -- atmosphere, land surface, ocean and sea ice -- and the choice of
variables archived at the PCMDI reflects this focus.

This is the portal for the IPCC 4th Assessment Model Output database, recently renamed WCRP CMIP3 multi-model database (World Climate Research Programme, Coupled Model Intercomparison Project): https://esg.llnl.gov:8443/index.jsp.

The Earth System Grid (ESG) integrates supercomputers with large-scale data and
analysis servers located at numerous national labs and research centers to
create a powerful environment for next generation climate research. This portal
is the primary point of entry into the ESG.
This database consists of model output data generated for the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 4th Assessment.
