Abstract: This dataset contains a point coverage with an associated database file. The
original dataset was collected through visual field observation by Robert
Chabreck (Louisiana Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit, LSU), Ted Joanen
(Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission) and A.W. Palmisano (Louisiana
State University). The observations were made flying over the study area
(Louisiana Coastal Zone). ... The flight was along north/south transects spaced 7.5
minutes apart from the Texas state line to the Mississippi state line.
Vegetative data were obtained at predetermined stations spaced 1/4 miles along
each transect. This information was recorded manually into field tally sheets.
The flight line data was used as a guide to generate the points along the
transect routes using ARC/Info 8.0. The new dataset resulted in a point
coverage and associated database file containing vegetative marsh type
attributes along transect flight lines. Coverage is of the coastal region of
the State of Louisiana. The purpose of the dataset is to create an Arc/Info
point coverage of the 1968 Louisiana Coastal Marsh Type Study.
The attribute information from the original tally field sheets were entered
into a dbf file. A GIS software application (Arc/Info) was used to generate the
points along the transect routes. The new dataset resulted in a point coverage
containing the vegetative marsh type attributes along transect flight lines.

Quality For the original data, the accuracy is not based on a formal quantitative
assessment and was based on the judgement of the data collector in the field.
A visual hard copy to screen comparison was made to ensure point location
accuracy and that no points were excluded or have missing attributes. The
attribute information was checked ... against the field tally sheets and reviewed
by Dr. Chabreck.
For the original data, all data were derived in the same general format of
collecting data at pre-determined stations while flying along transect routes
in a helicopter. Stations ending in 1-8 were observed from the air; stations
ending in 9 were observed on ground. There were no stations ending in 0; these
were excluded from the study survey method.
Horizontal positional accuracy is determined by the source data.
