Pakitsoq carbon-14 of methane and supporting gas data
Entry ID:
severinghaus_0221470
Summary
Abstract:
This data set includes carbon-14 measurements on atmospheric methane obtained
from air bubbles in glacial ice at the Pakitsoq outcrop in western Greenland, during two abrupt increases in methane concentration during the last deglaciation (14.7 and 11.6 kyr BP). Supporting measurements of oxygen-18 of O2, nitrogen-15 of N2, methane concentration, and oxygen-18 of ice used to establish the chronology are also included. The data were collected between 2001 and 2005 in a test of the "clathrate hypothesis", that massive releases of methane from marine methane hydrates caused the observed abrupt increases in atmospheric concentration at those two times.
