Abstract: The Tiflis Observatory data resides in 24 books, 'Beobachtungen Des Tifliser
Physikalischen Observatoriums' (C/db AO-Tm). These books contain tables of
hourly observations and daily, monthly and annual weather data for each year
from 1891 to 1927. The parameters included in these tables are the following:
hourly observations of pressure, air and soil temperature, humidity, sunshine,
cloudiness, ... wind, evaporation, vertical intensity, horizontal intensity, total
intensity and declination, and inclination. The daily, monthly, and annual
mean, absolute maximum and minimum are also tabulated for the above variables.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection held by the
NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in this collection dates
back to the 18th century for daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual tabular
summaries, and the 19th century for weather maps. These data are the result of
foreign exchange agreements, but the collection has not been updated since

Quality This shapefile of contours was interpolated from a triangulated irregular network that was generated from slope corrected orthometric heights of Antarctica.
These heights were derived using ERS radar altimetry.
The ArcView 3D analyst was used to interpolate the contours. The resulting shapefile was converted to an Arc/Info coverage. The Arcedit generalize command was used to thin the ... contours using a tolerance of 500 metres. The resulting contours were splined with a grain tolerance of 100. Finally the contours were manually cleaned and then generalised with a tolerance of 10 metres. The void area at the centre of the continent was removed using the erase command. A certainty value of approximate was assigned to contours that fell within areas of invalid heights as indicated by the reliability shapefile (refer to metadata record ERS_REL_ANT).
On completion, the coverage was converted to a shapefile.
Access Constraints Available unprojected or in a Polar Stereographic projection with true scale at 71 degrees S.
