Geology of the Deep Freeze Range, north Victoria Land, Antarctica
Entry ID: DHElliot_OSU

[ Get Data ]

Summary
Abstract: This data set contains information about rock samples collected in the
1999-2000 field season from the Deep Freeze Range region of north Victoria
Land.

The rock collection includes samples of the Upper Triassic Section Peak
Formation, the overlying Lower Jurassic Exposure Hill Formation, and the
capping Lower Jurassic Kirkpatrick Basalt. The Section Peak Formation is
dominantly a quartzose sandstone unit which is locally intruded by Lower
Jurassic Ferrar Dolerite sills. The Exposure Hill Formation is a basaltic
pyroclastic unit formed as a result of phreatomagmatic processes. Locally it
has interbedded volcaniclastic sandstones and finer grained beds. The
Kirkaptrick Basalt comprises thick flood basalt lava flows.

The sample data are listed by geographic locality.
