Daily Solar Irradiance from the Solar Mesospheric Explorer (SME) Ultraviolet Spectrometer
Entry ID:
81-100A-05A
Summary
Abstract:
The solar spectrometer onboard the Solar Mesosphere Explorer (SME)
measures ultraviolet radiation in the spectral range of 115.5 to 302.5 nm. Daily averages of solar irradiance, adjusted to a solar distance of 1 AU, with a spectral resolution of 1 nm is available on one tape. Improved solar Lyman-alpha flux at 120, 121, and 122 nm are included in the tape as a correction to the instrument's wavelength calibration error. The absolute flux is normalized to a rocket experiment of May 17, 1982 and is accurate to +/- 15%. The relative accuracy should not be considered better than +/- 2% per year, and extraction of long-term solar variability from this data set is not recommended by the investigators.
