Hurricane Rita Disaster Response from the USGS
Entry ID:
USGS_EROS_HDDS_RITA
Summary
Abstract:
USGS EROS supported first responders and emergency services working in response to Hurricane Rita. EROS channeled vital imagery to state and local governments, FEMA, and other federal agencies. These images helped prioritize relief efforts.
In cooperation with FEMA, EROS is the clearinghouse for all aerial, satellite, and ground information on areas struck by natural disasters. EROS received pre- and post-hurricane imagery files of the affected area and immediately uploaded them to an FTP data server for rapid release to relief organizations and agencies, as well as government disaster management teams.
