Summary
Abstract: RALNET-LBA is a data sharing objective aimed at the Land Surface Hydrology
component of LBA. Its contents are the direct output of the "Altimetric Remote
Sensing of the Amazon: Contribution to Surface Water Dynamics" project which is
currently funded by NASA (NRA 98-MTPE-01 Hydrological Participation in LBA).
The project PI is Charon Birkett (USRA NASA/GSFC), Co-I is Mike Jasinski
(NASA/GSFC), the Brazilian counterpart is Marcos Costa (University of Vicosa),
and there are a number of North and South American collaborators.

Utilizing remotely sensed spatial and temporal patterns of surface water
fluxes, the project science objectives encompass hydrology, ecology, hazard and
climate-related applications and issues.

By utilizing remote sensing data in the form of satellite radar altimetry, the
project additionally contributes to NASA's Mission to Planet Earth program.
