1998 Hurricane Mitch Honduras Habitat Data for the Gulf of Fonseca
Entry ID:
usgs_nwrc_gulfoffoneseca
Summary
Abstract:
This data set consists of digital data describing wetland and upland habitats
in the southern coastal areas of Honduras affected by Hurricane Mitch in October 1998. The data set includes specifically the municipalities of San Lorenzo, Nacaome, Amapala and Choluteca. Wetlands were classified using the Cowardin, et al., wetland classification scheme to the level of salinity modifiers. Uplands were classified using a customized classification scheme which can be cross-referenced to Anderson, et al.,. The purpose of the dataset is to provide habitat information for restoration and management effects. Geographic Coverage

Quality
The attribute accuracy was tested using several methods during the data
development phases and completion. During the interpretation phase, quality checks were performed at every stage. At the digitizing phase, data was tested by manual comparison of the source with hard copy printouts and/or symbolized display of the digital wetlands data on an ... ![]()
