Abstract:
The Seminole County Watershed Atlas is designed to provide citizens, scientists, and planners of the region with comprehensive and current water quality, hydrologic, and ecological data, as well as, a library of scientific and educational resources on ecology and management. Typically, the scientists and citizens who live and work on water bodies have found it difficult to gather the information they need from the myriad of agencies that collect the related data. To solve this problem, we conceived of the Atlas as a "One Stop Information Shop" for concerned citizens and scientists alike. The Atlas functions as a warehouse for a variety of water resources information, including documents and educational links. We have also strived to make the Atlas a rich resource that educates citizens about the data presented and gives scientists easy access to the specialized information they need. We encourage you to use the Atlas as a tool to help in maintaining and improving our vital water resources. The Mapping Interface was designed using ESRI's ArcIMS software and developed in collaboration with ESRI programming consultants. The Mapping Interface allows you to navigate through the region using the interactive map. You can search for water bodies by name, view lists of watersheds and water bodies, conduct an address search, or use the zoom and selection functions to move through the map and select a waterbody or watershed. Follow this link to learn more about the Mapping Interface and other features on the Atlas. The Water Resource Pages were developed using Active Server Pages (ASP) programming to present the data to you from the W-RAD. The Water Resource Pages provide the user with relevant, current, and historic data on individual watersheds and water bodies. There are also additional documents, images, and links to related information available to view online or download. The Research section of the Atlas provides more complex and in-depth tools for viewing the data contained in the W-RAD. Users can graph trends over time of water quality and hydrology data. The Advanced Graphing Tool was created using Web Charts 3D software by Green Point. Users can also use the Data Download Tool to download Microsoft Excel files or tab delimited text files of various data sets. The user can then use these data in their own research and analysis.
