Prevalence of Myxobolus cerebralis infection in Tubifex tubifex
Entry ID:
MSU_PITT
Summary
Abstract:
Prevalence of Myxobolus cerebralis infections in Tubifex tubifex was measured by determining which collected worms were actively shedding triactinomyxons (TAMs). A subset of worms that were not shedding TAMs were screened for infection using the PCR diagnostic test, and the prevalence of infection was determined. This data table shows results for total prevalence of infected worms. These data were collected in order to determine the prevalence of M. cerebralis infection in T. tubifex collected from Rock Creek. They will be used in conjunction with other habitat, temperature, and sentinel cage data to study transmission dynamics of whirling disease.
