Summary
Abstract: "The Toxic Release Inventory (TRI)" database contains data on annual
estimated releases of over 300 toxic chemicals to air, water and land
by the manufacturing industry. TRI's main purpose is to encourage
planning for response to chemical accidents and to provide the public
and the government with information about possible chemical hazards in
the community. The information making up the database is provided
directly to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) by the
industrial facilities under the Emergency Planning and Community Right
to know Act (Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization
Act) of 1986, and the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990.

TRI contains facility and substance identification,
environmental chemical release, off-site waste transfer, and
waste treatment/minimization information.
