Abstract:
"The Toxic Release Inventory (TRI)" database contains data on annual estimated releases of over 300 toxic chemicals to air, water and land by the manufacturing industry. TRI's main purpose is to encourage planning for response to chemical accidents and to provide the public and the government with information about possible chemical hazards in the community. The information making up the database is provided directly to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) by the industrial facilities under the Emergency Planning and Community Right to know Act (Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act) of 1986, and the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990. TRI contains facility and substance identification, environmental chemical release, off-site waste transfer, and waste treatment/minimization information. Data Center: National Technical Information Service (NTIS) Dissemination Media: Electronic: Online, magnetic tape, CD ROM and diskettes. Hard copy: Microfiche File Format: Access Instructions: 1. Steve Newburg-Rinn: 202-260-3757 2. National Library of Medicine (NLM) Toxicology Network (TOXNET); 3. Microfiche versions are available at a library in every U.S. county. Size: Memory Requirements: Operating System: Hardware Required: Variable according to media. Software Required: ADABAS NATURAL for the mainframe; dBase or Lotus for the diskettes.
