Abstract: Six ice core records of refractory black carbon were developed from ice cores drilled during the Norwegian-U.S. Scientific Traverse of East Antarctica from 2007 to 2009. The ice cores were drilled in disparate regions of the high East Antarctic ice sheet, at different elevations and net snow accumulation rates. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the spatial distribution of black carbon to the East Antarctic plateau and its relationship to climate and human activity.
