Summary
Abstract: The Irrigation maps are split into two section. The first set of maps
are from the preliminary 1997 NRI data. The following set are from 1992
and earlier data. Both sets of maps deal with irrigation in
croplands. Some of the irrigation systems and types depicted are
pressure and gravity. The maps also look at the changes in irrigation
areas.

Description: The National Resources Inventory covers non-federal land in the United
States - some 75 percent of the country's land base - and is conducted
every five years by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in
cooperation with Iowa State University. It captures data from 800,000
statistically selected locations on land cover, land use, soil
erosion, prime farmland soils, wetlands, habitat diversity, selected
conservation practices, and other natural resource information. The
information is statistically reliable for national, statewide, and
multi-county use.
