Summary

Abstract: This task of the Trans-Atlantic Study of Calanus
combined laboratory, mesocosm and shipboard
experimentation with modelling to advance quantitative
knowledge of feeding biology, reproductive biology and
key life-cycle phenomena of Calanus finmarchicus over
the trans-latitudinal range. This component of TASC
interacted strongly with the field programme, both by
providing key analytical and experimental shipboard
experimental input ot TASC cruises and also by
testing, under defined laboratory conditions, critical
hypothese generated by the field programme.

Quality The locations of some colonies and South Polar Skua nest sites on Ardery Island were eyed in in February 1998 using as a guide field survey sketches by Dr Jan van Franeker. The locations of colonies on Odbert Island were digitised from a paper (van Franeker, J.A., Bell, P.J. and Montague, T.L. (1990). Birds of Ardery and Odbert Islands, Windmill Islands, Antarctica. Emu 90, 74-80) which was based on field work done in 1984/85 and 1986/87.
