Abstract:
E2 - Biogenic Emissions The Southern Oxidants Study (SOS) conducted a major field research campaign in Nashville/Middle Tennessee area in June and July 1994 and 1995. The goal of this study was to improve scientific understanding of the processes that control the production and distribution of ozone in the troposphere. Measurements of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from biogenic sources and their oxidation products were collected in a predominantly oak forest at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) during the 1995 Southern Oxidants Study (SOS) Nashville/Middle Tennessee Ozone Study. Measurements were made on three scales - leaf-level, canopy-level, and landscape-level. Data collected included isoprenes, methyl vinyl ketones, methacrolein, non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHCs), wind speed/direction, humidity, temperature, and pressure, inorganic and organic peroxide concentrations and flux, ozone concentration and flux, CO2 and water vapor concentration and flux, UV-b radiation, net radiation, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), and vegetation species survey including diameter at breast height (dbh) measurements. The study was conducted from July 13, 1995 through July 21, 1995. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was the coordinator for the 1995 Southern Oxidants Study Nashville/Middle Tennessee Ozone Study.
