The IRIS Education & Outreach (E&O) program, in collaboration with the
seismological and educational communities, develops and implements IRIS
programs designed to enhance seismology and Earth Science education. The site
contains a list of seismic events that have occurred within the past 30 days as
well as links for students, ... teachers, and general information seekers. Users
can view seismic data such as the date, time, latitude, longitude, depth,
magnitude and geographic location by clicking on a world map containing seismic
epicenters. Events with a Richter scale reading over 6.0 in magnitude are
linked to pages with greater detail about the associated earthquake. Such
detailed information includes instructions for reading seismograms and sample
seisomograms from several data recording stations. The Special Event Page
helps the user to find more information about a recent seismic event. This
page may contain general information, links to other sites, and links to more
graphics.
