Description: The U.S research community is conducting a deep ice coring project in West Antarctica for studies of climate, ice sheet history and cryobiology. This project is collecting a deep ice core from the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) ice flow divide and integrating approximately 20 separate but synergistic projects to analyze the ice and interpret the records.

Description: The National Ice Core Laboratory - Science Management Office (NICL-SMO) is funded by the National Science Foundation Office of Polar Programs to provide scientific management of the National Ice Core Laboratory (NICL). NICL-SMO serves as the primary point of contact for scientists interested in access to ice cores stored at NICL and/or use of the NICL facility. NICL-SMO also facilitates the Ice Core Working Group (ICWG). NICL-SMO, with the assistance of the ICWG, oversees the scientific operations and activities at NICL.
